In a guide to intriguing art exhibitions nationwide, Judith Dobrzynski features the High Museum of Art’s “Walker Evans: Depth of Field”, a major international retrospective of Evans’ work, including images taken of the American South during the Great Depression; the Denver Art Museum’s “Women of Abstract Expression”, celebrating the contributions of female artists who helped shape the movement in the 1940s and 1950s; the Met Breuer’s “Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible”, the Museum’s inaugural exhibition examining works that were never finished by the artists from the 15th century to today; the Asian Art Museum’s “Emperors’ Treasures: Chinese Art From the National Palace Museum, Taipei”, and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art’s “This Is a Portrait if I Say So: Identity in American Art, 1912 to Today.”

In “When Fashion Meets Technology, You Can Wear Your Tweets", Hilarie Sheets explores the confluence of fashion and technology as seen in a series of recent exhibitions, including the High Museum of Art’s exhibition of “Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion” and the Museum of Arts and Design’s 2013 exhibition, “Out of Hand: Materializing the Postdigital”, for which R+A mounted a comprehensive media campaign. 

In “European Museums Are Shifting to American Way of Giving", Geraldine Fabrikant describes the ways in which institutions abroad are embracing an American fundraising model, highlighting the Israel Museum’s pioneering efforts in this area.

In “A Bygone Time Captured Through the Lens of Walker Evans”, Philip Gefter discusses the High Museum of Art’s major Walker Evans exhibition, the most comprehensive retrospective of Evans’ work since 2000 and the and the museum’s pioneering photography program.

Edward Gomez, in “A Whole Planet of Modern Art”, discusses museums that are thinking beyond the West to explore Modernism in Asia, Africa, South America and beyond, including the Dallas Museum of Art’s recent exhibition of the Gutai artists Sadamasa Motonaga and Kazuo Shiraga.

In “Jackson Pollock, a Chance Encounter and a Multimillion-Dollar Foundation", Ted Loos profiles Charles C. Bergman, who has been chairman and chief executive of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation for over 30 years. The article highlights the Dallas Museum of Art’s current exhibition, “Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots”, which closes March 20.

In “The Sweet Synergy of Flowers and Pictures of Flowers”, Geraldine Fabrikant looks at the trend in exchanges between gardens and art museums, including the Israel Museum’s upcoming loan of the 1913-14 Marc Chagall painting, “The Lovers,” which will travel to Sarasota, Florida’s Marie Selby Botanical Gardens next year.

Ted Loos, in his article “Speed Museum Turns to a Spreadsheet to Increase Diversity", looks at the Speed Museum’s efforts to diversify its board, quoting AAMD President Johnetta Cole who applauds this move.
