This year’s preview features eight R+A clients

In a round up of the nation’s most significant fall art events, Martha Schwendener includes a diverse array of exhibitions from R+A clients across the country, exploring topics from French photography, to art from the Middle Ages, to Japanese fashion, and influential contemporary artists. Highlights include:

- Baltimore Museum of Art’s Matisse/ Diebenkorn, the very first exhibition comparing the two artists side-by-side;

Live and Life Will Give you Pictures: Masterworks of French Photography, 1890-1950, the first photography exhibition at the Barnes Foundation;

Art and Nature in the Middle Ages, for which the Dallas Museum of Art is the exclusive U.S. venue;

- Two exhibitions at the Denver Art Museum: Shock Wave: Japanese Fashion Design, 1980 – 1990s, which examines the transformation of Paris fashion by Japanese designers; and Mi Tierra: Contemporary Artists Explore Place, which will debut 13 site-specific installations by contemporary artists;

- A 50-year career survey of pioneering German artist Thomas Bayrle at ICA Miami;

- A survey of British romantic artist Joseph Mallord William Turner’s stormy maritime paintings in Modern and Ancient Ports: Passages Through Time at the Frick Collection;

- The High Museum of Art’s exhibition, Thomas Struth: Nature and Politics, featuring a series of photographs that capture postindustrial space centers, amusement parks, and medical operating rooms; and;

- Artist Taryn Simon’s An Occupation of Loss at the Park Avenue Armory, which assembles an ambitious installation of over 30 professional mourners.
